MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Cape Central boys basketball team takes Fountain City Classic title

Austin Parker finished with a game-high 14 points as the top-seeded Cape Central boys basketball team easily disposed of seventh-Third Annual seeded Fox 68-29 to claim the championship at the Fountain City Classic on Saturday in DeSoto, Mo.

The Tigers jumped out to a 27-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and were never threatened.

Jawone Newell added 13 points for Central (3-0).

Tony Pisoni finished with nine points to pace Fox (3-1).

Parkway South Patriot Classic

Freshman Alec Bailey, senior Gus Guilliams and senior Payne Guilliams each took first place for the Jackson wrestling team, which placed second in its pool and third overall in the 12-team tournament on Friday and Saturday in the suburban St. Louis area.

Bailey won the 106-pound match in a 5-3 decision over Francis Howell's Josh Kyle. At 126, Gus Guilliams defeated McCluer North's Jacob Roberson by technical fall (16-1), while Payne Guilliams (152) knocked off Francis Howell's Tyler McGhee by pinfall in 2 minutes, 41 seconds.

Braden Vaugier (132), Cole Welker (145) and Jacob Dudley (160) each came away with second-place finishes for the Indians, while Zack Flaith (3rd, 138), Bryce Dickerson (3rd, 220), Justin Singleton (4th, 170), Jeson Dewrock (5th, 113), Bay Winchester (6th, 120), Cole Amelunke (6th, 195) and Braxton Green (6th, 285) also placed for Jackson.

The Indians' JV squad claimed first place with a total of 310 points.

Sikeston Bulldog Duals

Cape Central took fourth place at the Sikeston Bulldogs Duals tournament.

The Tigers defeated Caldwell County (Princeton, Ky.) 48-27 before knocking off Kennett (52-30) and the Poplar Bluff junior varsity team (63-18). Central fell to Sikeston (59-16) and Poplar Bluff (51-25).

Brendan Wilkens (120), Davion Clark (152), Dalan Thompson (170) and Mitchell Humphrey (220) each finished 4-1 to lead the way for the Tigers. Central's Dawson Bevens (106), Dennis Jordan (160), Reiss Groves (182) and Zachary Nunn (195) each went 3-2.

In freshmen action, Cape Central competed at the North County Raider Rookie Round-Up Tournament, as Courtney Arnold finished 3-0 for the Tigers to take first place at 160.

Tyler Sikes (120) went 3-2 for Central, while Braden Dover (145) was 2-1.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Potosi 58, Perryville 43

Kirstin Jannin scored a team-high 17 points but it wasn't enough to lift the sixth-seeded Pirates past the fourth-seeded Trojans in the consolation final of the Second Annual Fredericktown Tournament.

Alyssa Stortz added 15 points for Perryville (0-5), which was outscored in each period.

Jenna Haynes and Shayla Jennings each finished with 18 points to lead Potosi (1-2).
