MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Oran girls basketball topples Scott County Central

Sophomore Leah Cauble had another big night, recording a double-double with a game-high 39 points along with 10 rebounds and five assists as Oran defeated Scott County Central 80-64 in the Eagles' home and conference opener.

Jessie Long also finished with a double-double with 19 points, 17 rebounds and three steals for Oran (2-0, 1-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference). Kaylee Payne added seven points, four rebounds and three steals for the Eagles, who held a four-point lead at halftime but went on to outscore the Bravettes by 12 points in the third quarter before a stalemate in the final frame.

Junior Johneisha Daniel and freshman Samantha Coffee poured in 17 points apiece to pace Scott County Central (0-1, 0-1).

Junior Addie Beussink tallied 14 points and six rebounds as the host Crusaders began their season with a shakeup in the SEMO Conference following their win over the Bulldogs.

Masyn McWilliams tossed in 13 points for Saxony Lutheran (1-0, 1-0 SEMO Conference), which held a 37-9 advantage at halftime.

Both teams will return to the court on Monday in the inaugural SEMO Conference Tournament. The Bulldogs are seeded fourth and the Crusaders are sixth. Sikeston (0-1, 0-1) will face fifth-seeded Kennett and Saxony will square off against third-seeded Notre Dame.

Alexus Jordan nailed a game-high 24 points to lead New Madrid County Central (1-1). The Eagles will face fourth-seeded Cairo, Ill., at 2:30 p.m. today for the consolation championship. The Pilots ousted eighth-seeded Hayti 54-22 in the other consolation semifinal.
