Notre Dame girls golf atop leaderboard after Day 1 of state tournament

Notre Dame junior Sarah Bell leads the Class 1 Girls Golf State Championship Tournament Monday after the first of two rounds at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, Missouri. The tournament will conclude Tuesday.

The Notre Dame girls golf team holds a commanding lead following the first round of the Class 1 state tournament Monday at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, Missouri.

Junior Sarah Bell represents the Bulldogs atop the leaderboard with a 1-over-par 73. She holds a four-stroke lead over Ste. Genevieve's Madison DeRousse, who shot a 5-over 77.

Notre Dame finished the opening round with a team score of 324 and is 24 strokes ahead of second-place Pembroke Hill (348). John Burroughs (349) is in third.

Freshman Taryn Overstreet and junior Allison Bray both shot an 8-over 80 for the Bulldogs and are in a three-way tie for fifth place with John Burroughs' Vicoire Ippoliti.

Juniors Olivia Williams (91) Haley Taylor (105) rounded out Notre Dame's opening-round team scores.

The tournament concludes today with second-round action.
