MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Jackson girls win Gold Division at Forest Park

The Jackson girls cross country team had four finishers in the top 30 as it won the Gold Division at the Forest Park Festival.

Led by a seventh-place finish by Megan Barnum, the Indians finished with a 132 total to finish nine points ahead of Fort Zumwalt West.

Barnum covered the 3.1-mile course in 21 minutes, 28 seconds. Jackson's Kaylee Wilson (16th, 22:02), Kennedy Bauer (19th, 22:16) and Margo Motes (29th, 22:39) also finished in the top 30 while Maddie Barnum (88th, 24:18) rounded out the top five.

"Since we had a partial squad we elected to go Gold," Jackson coach Andrea Talley said. "We had a lot of people gone.

Talley said rain in the St. Louis area made for an adventurous run.

"The course conditions were horrible," Talley said. "Our times were at least a minute and a half slower than normal; that's how bad the course was. We had some in ankle deep mud."

The Notre Dame girls, paced by Katie Hanners (22nd, 21:03) placed 11th in the Green Division. Alaina Baumgart (34th, 21:26) and Bailey Beussink (44th, 21:48) both finished below 22 minutes.

St. Vincent's Corin Carroll (22:53) took third in the White Division. Mattie Huff (77th, 23:58) led Cape Girardeau Central's entries in the Gold Division.

On the boys' side, St. Vincent, paced by Andrew Lipe (15th, 19:41), took eighth in the White Division. Jackson's Ean Buffington had the lowest time among local runners, clocking 17:38 and finishing 22nd in the Green Division. Jared Neikirk (34th, 18:44) led the Central boys in the White Division, and Blake Morris (77, 18:37) led Notre Dame in the Green Division.
