Daugherty Signs with Morthland Patriots

2016 Portageville graduate Tyler Daugherty has sign a letter of intent to play baseball at Morthland College for the Patriots. Morthland is located in West Frankford, Ill. The Patriots program is a young program and has been playing ball for four years. The team will have a fall and a spring season. Most of their spring season games are played at Rent One Park in Marion, which is home of the Southern Illinois Miners, a Minor League team.

"I was privileged to coach at Portageville for the last two years and I got to work with several great people including students, athletes, coaches, administrators, parents, and community members. Tyler is one of the most coachable young men I've ever had: he did whatever I asked him to do. He'd come in to pitch a game that whether we were up or down a bunch of runs, he'd play outfield, he'd play infield, he'd lay down a bunt, he'd take a strike...whatever it was it was always for his teammates. Morthland College will enjoy getting an unselfish, hard working, intelligent student-athlete in Tyler and I wish him all the best," said former baseball coach Zach McDaniel.

Stats: .266 BA, 16 RBI's, 24 Runs scored, on base percentage of .364

Pitching: 50.2 Innings pitched, 7-3 record, 48 K's, 2.49 ERA

"Tyler's decision to attend Morthland and be a part of our baseball team is one that I am very pleased about. In my short period of getting to know Tyler, I feel like we have gained a great young man from a very respectable family. His potential on and off the field has a very high ceiling which speaks loudly about the type of student-athletes produced the Portageville school district and community. We can't wait to have him on campus," said Cure.
