Season ends a win shy of final four for Jackson boys basketball team

St. Charles, Mo. -- The Jackson boys basketball team's season came to end one win shy of the final four for the third consecutive season on Saturday.

The Indians fell to the St. Louis University High Junior Bills 58-50 in a Class 5 quarterfinal at Hyland Arena on the campus of Lindenwood University.

Jackson spent almost the entire game playing from behind. The Indians trailed 16-9 after the first quarter, 26-17 at halftime and 42-32 heading to the fourth.

Jackson got as close as three points with 1 minute, 59 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Connor Shepard made a layup and was fouled, but SLUH closed out its win on an 8-3 run.

Senior Blake Reynolds finished his three-year varsity career with 19 points on 5-of-12 shooting for Jackson. He also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

Senior Braden Wendel had five points, and Garrett Walker and Connor Shepard each added five.

St. Louis University High was led by 15 points and nine rebounds from senior Hunter Schmidt. Matthew Nester had 12, and Brandon Mckissic had 11 for the Junior Bills.

Jackson finished the season 23-7.
