Doniphan cross country runners head to state

The Doniphan High School cross country team competed in the Class 2 district meet at Willow Springs Saturday, October 30th, qualifying five runners to the state meet.

Freshmen Kalli Hill and Brittney Ritter, and juniors Kaitlyn Burgess and Shelby Burgess, all placed in the top 15 runners to advance in the varsity girls competition. The girls team was edged out of advancing the five-girl team, which included senior Melinda Holmes, by three points behind Ava. Mountain Grove took first.

Junior Jimmy Kramer will advance in the boys varsity division.

This is the most runners to advance to state competition since cross country started at DHS in 2002. It is also the first year for head coach Paul Hicks. The state meet will be held Saturday, November 6 in Jefferson City.
