ROUNDUP: Portageville advances to Class 2 final

CAMPBELL -- The Portageville Bulldogs advanced to the Class 2 District 1 Championship game Monday afternoon after beating the host Campbell Camels 6-4.

They will face the South Pemiscot Bulldogs in the Championship game today at 4 p.m. in Campbell. South Pemiscot advanced through the semifinals by being the Senath-Hornersville Lions.


Delta C-7 4, Gideon 0

COOTER -- The Delta C-7 Chargers, the North Pemiscot Mustangs and the Holcomb Hornets each advanced in the Class 1 District 1 Tournament in Cooter on Monday afternoon.

Delta C-7 slipped by Gideon 4-0 as four errors by the Bulldogs aided the Charger victory.

James Blanton recorded the shutout victory as he only allowed six hits to Gideon s offense on the day.

Up next for Delta C-7 is the No. 1 seeded Cooter Wildcats today at 4 p.m.

North Pemiscot 24, Risco 1

North Pemiscot made light of Risco Monday afternoon as they racked up 16 hits in the 24-1 victory to secure a second round berth. Brandon Quillin pitched three shutout innings to record the win for the Mustangs.

Michael Gilboe hit a home run for North Pemiscot in the victory and Quillin helped his own cause as he recorded four hits on the day. For Risco, Brandon Bennett was charged with the loss. Bennett, Ross Carter and Justin Earnheart each had one hit apiece in the contest. North Pemiscot will battle Holcomb today.

Holcomb 20, Southland 2

Holcomb reached the semifinals by defeating the Southland Rebels 20-2 in five innings due to the mercy rule.

Dylan McCormick picked up the victory for the Hornets as he threw all five innings in the contest.

Holcomb pounded out 16 hits, led by Shane McElwrath who recorded four on the day.

D.J. Higgins was handed the loss for Southland.

Holcomb will take on North Pemiscot today.
