Risco earns first win of season

CLARKTON -- The Clarkton tournament provided the Risco Tigers with their first victory, as they defeated the Holcomb Hornets Friday night by a score of 65-63 in the fifth-place game.

Risco trailed Holcomb at the half, 31-19, but in the second half, Risco's Kyle White scored 23 points to lead the Tigers to victory. White finished the game with 34 points, including six 3-pointers.

"We couldn't buy a bucket in the first half," Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship said. "We missed tons of easy shots, but in the second half we sped the game up with the press."

White hit just one three-pointer in the first half, but in the third he hit four, accumulating 14 points in the quarter, and he added one more in the fourth.

"(Kyle) White had a heck of a second half," Blankenship said. "He had 23 points in the second half and he made the all-tournament team."

Derek Fowler added 10 points for Risco in the victory.

Holcomb's Lucas Fuller had 16 points and Chad Adams had 12.

Up next for Risco is a home game against Leopold on Jan. 4. Richland finished third place, defeating Gideon 63-62 while Clarkton won the tournament, downing Gosnell, Ark., 73-64.

The All-Tournament team was announced Friday night at the Clarkton Tournament, and included the following players: Kyle White (Risco), Drew Thornton (Richland), Nick Harris (Richland), Jordan Boone (Gideon), Dustin Horard (Gideon), Dustin Ferguson (Clarkton), Casey Redden (Clarkton), Arthur Parnell (Gosnell), Ethan Bryant (Gosnell) and Deantre Scott (Gosnell).

Hayti 78, Cooter 62

HAYTI -- The Hayti Indians improved to 5-2 on the season with a 78-62 win over Cooter Friday night.

The Indians led 33-30 at the half and extended their lead to 55-45 after three.

Hayti was led in scoring by Jamestic Gooden's 17 and Denzel Presberry's 15.

Cooter was led Aaron McCaig's 16.
