Bernie, Bell City advance to SCAA volleyball final

PUXICO -- Jenny Eubank and Kristin Eaves led the way with 10 kills and five solo blocks each and Jessie Alexander added eight as Bernie swept Woodland 25-23, 25-20 in the semifinal of the SCAA Tournament.

The Lady Mules (16-10-1) face top-seeded Bell City tonight in the championship game.

Sarah Deason led Bernie with 16 digs, followed by Amber Mirth’s total of 14. Mirth also had 32 assists in the match.

“Our big three hitters all had solid games tonight with very few errors,” Bernie coach Jeff Rodgers said.

Jessica Satterfield led the Lady Bearcats with nine kills, 15 digs, a block and seven assists in a 25-18, 25-19 loss to Bell City.

Cathryn Heil added eight kills, five digs and seven assists for Dexter (15-12-1).

Defensively, Abbie Warren picked up four blocks and a dig while Brooke Thrower finished with four digs.

“Although the outcome of tonight’s game didn’t go our way, I am still proud that my girls hung in there with Bell City,” Dexter coach Kris Vandeven said.

SOFTBALL: Poplar Bluff Lady Mules softball team put several of its members on the all-district team this season.

The Class 4 District 1 First Team includes Kelly Kelm and Cindy Nippe. Breanna Moore, Stefanie Ferguson and Julie Maloney earned spots on the second team.

In Class 2 District 1, five players each from East Carter and Twin Rivers headlined the all-district selections.

Lindsey Eudaley, Holly Dalton, Tiffany Baker, Meagan Carter and Bethany LeGrand earned spots on the first team for East Carter while Laura Nance was named honorable mention.

The Lady Royals landed three infielders, Kayla Cunningham, Samantha Leutert and Bethany Keirsey, on the team. Pitcher Carlee Vancil and catcher Kelci Scott rounded out the Twin Rivers honorees.

Malden infielder Kristen Stroup and pitcher Amber Grooms, along with Greenville catcher Lindsay Henson and pitcher Sara Condray were also named to the team. Alex Green of Clearwater was also an honorable mention.
