ELLSINORE -- With a game against first-place Twin Rivers looming large this week, Naylor took care of business on the road against East Carter on Monday defeating the Lady Redbirds 8-1.

The Lady Eagles won with a - around effort, complementing yet another impressive outing by Chelsea Lane on the mound with timely hitting.

"As always, I felt like for the most part she was right on," Naylor

said of her pitcher. "She is good about knowing what she's got to do and getting the job done."

At Greenville, Carlee Vancil struck out 20 for a no-hitter and drove in the only run as Twin Rivers won 1-0.

Naylor wasted no time at East Carter in claiming an early lead as Hailee Deckard led off the game with a bunt single. After stealing second and third, the shortstop scored on a wild pitch.

With a slim lead to protect, Lane took care of business. She sat down hitter after hitter and took a perfect game into the fourth inning but walked Holly Dalton to spoil the perfect bid. The next batter, Lindsey Eudaley snapped the no-hitter with a single.

Lane allowed four hits and struck out four. She held a shutout until the final frame when Courtney Saffle led off with a triple for the Lady Redbirds and scored on a groundout by Nicole Nedenberg.

Coach Deckard was just happy to come away with the road win.

"Our confidence level was not where it should be going into the ga she said "I'm proud of the girls. We had a few things we could have done better but overall it was a pretty good team effort."

The Naylor bats came alive in the fifth inning as they scored five times to break open a close game.

Moriah Goodrum led off with a single and later came around to score one of the five runs. Seana Hughey was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on base with nobody out. She would be thrown out at the plate on a fielders' choice. Charissa Bridges did the most damage in the inning with a two-run double to drive in Deckard and Courtney Sullivan.

East Carter's Mariah Randazzo struck out nine and walked only one in a losing effort.

"After losing to Greenville the other day we needed to get another conference win," coach Deckard said. "We need all of them we can get."

Twin Rivers 1, Greenville 0

Vancil was 3-for-3 with an RBI in the first inning. She walked two and the Lady Royals committed an error in the road win.

Sara Condray struck out four and walked none for the Lady Bears.

Vancil's 20 strike outs rank tied for second-most in state history. Amy Roberta Craig of North Harrison struck out 21 of the 23 batters she faced in a game in 1997.
