Kelly boys, Poplar Bluff girls win team titles at Kelly Invitational

BENTON -- Two area high school cross country teams are celebrating championships after competing Saturday at the Kelly Invitational.

In the varsity boys race, Kelly won the team title as Cody Kern finished second overall. Poplar Bluff runner Travis Blalock won the boys competition in 16-minutes, 25 seconds.

Runners who completed the 3.1-mile course among the Top 15 received medals. Jacob Murphy, who was Sikeston's highest finisher, was 20th.

In the varsity girls race, Poplar Bluff claimed the team title. Hannah Blalock, the sister of Travis, had the winning time of 19:04.

Like the boys race, runners in the girls race who completed the 3.1-mile course among the Top 15 received medals. Sikeston had no competitors in the girls race.

Sikeston competed at the Jackson Invitational on Sept. 1, where Matt Rushing was 14th in the senior high division and Murphy was 18th in the freshman division.
