SEMO Baseball Head Coach Search

Posted by Hankerton on Wed, Jul 27, 2016, at 8:40 AM:

Looks like some names are popping up. Andy Sawyers (K-State / Texas A&M assistant), Mike McGuire (Moorhead State HC), and Drew Dickinson (Illinois assistant) among others. Anyone have thoughts on these candidates?

  • Was at the Caps game last night and heard there was another candidate, not on this list, that is the front-runner? apparently, he's a pitching coach at a southern school either in Missisippi or Alabama?

  • seems like Sawyers jumps around a lot?

Maguire would be OK, I guess?

  • It's Sawyers! Apparently it wasn't a unanimous decision, but let's see what this guy can do?

-- Posted by Big red hawk on Fri, Jul 29, 2016, at 7:12 AM
  • Where did you hear its Sawyer's and that it was not unanimous. If Sawyers, good - for McGuire it would be a lateral move, Sawyer is moving up to a HC position - that is what I like - Now who is his hitting coach and what does he teach?

  • Kendall Rogers on his D-1 Baseball.com twitter page says, according to his sources, Sawyers has been hired.

  • Great, can you send link or screenshot. The more I read I like the hire...

  • Sorry, don't know how to do that.

    Kendall Rogers -

BREAKING: #KState's Andy Sawyers (prev A&M/Nebraska) has been hired as the next head coach at @SEMObaseball, sources tell @d1baseball. #SEMO

Kendall Rogers - Really happy for Andy Sawyers. One of the better guys in the game, and it sounds like #SEMO is making a very solid commitment.

  • Thanks for the link. Just saw youtube video on him "Hot Seat" KSU - does seem like a good personality to play for. Also has agressive style :).

  • Now let's see if SEMO will step up on assistant coaches salaries?

  • The trick is going to be to find a good pitching coach . It looks like Sawyers background is all hitting .

Sawyers has coached all over so I would assume he has good connections in the coaching world. I'm sure he will bring in a good pitching coach (at least I hope).

  • Will his press conference be televised tomorrow?

  • Impressive guy! A lot of the same qualities of Bieser.

You would think if he was going to retain Borgschulte, he would have already done it?

I heard Borgschulte has another job offer, so it looks like there will be a new hitting coach.

-- Posted by Big red hawk on Mon, Aug 1, 2016, at 10:35 PM
  • Hope he gets a chance to stay, wonder why Beiser did not offer him a position with Mizzu?

-- Posted by Hankerton on Tue, Aug 2, 2016, at 8:17 PM
  • Really no place for him at Mizzou. Bieser hired Dillon Lawson as his hitting coach, and he is actually considered a Volunteer Assistant since D1 only allows 2 paid assistants. Rhodes is the Recruiting Coordinator and Hallmark is the pitching coach.

I heard that another OVC school has offered Borgschulte a position as hitting coach.

    Stay tuned!

  • Hope he is offered and stays. Would bridge gap between coaching staffs and seems like both have sumilar play style.

  • Heard they hired a new pitching coach. No word on who it is?

-- Posted by Big red hawk on Thu, Aug 4, 2016, at 8:44 AM
  • Correction! They hired a new hitting coach.

-- Posted by Big red hawk on Mon, Aug 8, 2016, at 10:17 AM
  • Borgshulte out then?

-- Posted by Hankerton on Mon, Aug 8, 2016, at 1:41 PM
  • Where did you hear about a new hitting coach?

  • Where did you hear about a new hitting coach?

-- Posted by Hankerton on Mon, Aug 8, 2016, at 1:49 PM
  • Borgsculte gone. All I know is that the new guy is a former colleague of Sawyers. Not totally unexpected? Not sure if SEMO will stick with the pitch recognition thing? I would hope so!

-- Posted by Big red hawk on Mon, Aug 8, 2016, at 10:58 PM
  • PItching Coach looks like a good hire!

Pretty sure they also hired a new hitting coach. Maybe waiting for his former school to announce that he is leaving?

    Should be this week.

  • Does practice start today?

-- Posted by Hankerton on Mon, Aug 22, 2016, at 7:57 AM
  • Not a huge fan of the hitting coach hire.

    -- Posted by arich35 on Mon, Aug 22, 2016, at 5:31 PM
  • Why not a fan? I know a guy he played college ball with who said has good character. Just curious on the style and how they handle the different styles. Just hope they leave what works alone.

-- Posted by Hankerton on Wed, Aug 24, 2016, at 3:00 PM
  • He probably is a great guy, wouldn't be hired otherwise. Just not a fan because of his credentials, but it could end up being a great hire.

    -- Posted by arich35 on Wed, Aug 24, 2016, at 10:16 PM
  • Yep, we will see. Just hope he is not a "swing down" small ball type across the board type.
