High School Football Forum: week 2 picks

Posted by footballfan29 on Wed, Sep 4, 2013, at 12:35 PM:

Hey Bleed who is everyone playing??

As a Jackson fan I think it will be a real good game against Vianney. They have probably the best runningback in the state on their team.. I think however our offense will be too much for them to handle and I think we will win by 2-3 touchdowns. 'How bout them Indians!'

Hey Greenwave what does Malden's passing game look like this year?

-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Wed, Sep 4, 2013, at 6:14 PM
  • No way SG beats Valle by 3 touchdowns. Valle has the best player on the field and I think he is the difference. 35-33 Valle.

I would hella' dig getting a chance to watch Jackson and P. Bluff play this year. I want to see that runningback from Bluff and the entire Jackson team perform!

-- Posted by STRAIGHTOUTTACHARLESTON on Wed, Sep 4, 2013, at 7:24 PM
  • dont believe I predicted anything last year. And your going to say a kid in his 3rd varsity game is better than a kid that went for 3000 yards last year? Good grief I have heard it all now. If you think Dallas is a better back then try going back to the little green latern and see what else it tells you. And people wonder why public school can be scary.

@wheresthebeef It's kind of suspect we ran it a lot against NMCC with Nick Thompson and Gunner Jones. Hopefully it's been worked out in practice

-- Posted by Greenwave Football on Wed, Sep 4, 2013, at 8:36 PM
  • In regards to the SG-Valle game (game of the week, no doubt), unless Valle has a lot of turnovers I really don't seeing it be that much of a blowout. Emotions will always run high in this game, so whoever can stay calm at the beginning with no mistakes is a huge key.

There's no denying that both the teams have serious skill position talent (imagine a class 4 combined Valle/SG team...wow!). This game (as most) will be won in the trenches. Both teams will look to run the ball early and often. Not sure how good SG's d-line is (i'm sure BG will explain why they are the best in SEMO), but if they can shut down the RB/QB run combo I like their chances to win this.

    SG 34-28

  • Gunner jones didn't do anything against NMCC.

-- Posted by BaseballFootballMan on Wed, Sep 4, 2013, at 10:31 PM
  • I think Dexter will be OK. The group they had last year was subpar, any coach would be hard pressed to squeeze wins from that group. I am sure they were a great bunch of kids, but hard nosed, battle tested, competitive kids they never appeared to be. This year's group looks young, junior QB, Senior Receivers, pretty much 1st year starters on the O-Line ...the thing is work in progress.

As far as the O-line, after the Jamboree everyone was touting the O-Line, then came SG, now they are awful & suck, probably somewhere in the middle, probably better than last year's line, but still needing time to put things together.

  • Now bleed remembers what I picked last year but somebody bought me Dairy Queen after that game last year after SG won. Heck bleed can't even remember his own athletic career. Kid went for 3000 please don't try and explain that away because you can't. He is the best player in SG. Just accept it.

  • So let's just make this clear. SG will never lose to anybody according to Bleed Green as long as they have no turn-overs. That's a real professional analysis right there!!!!!! I almost forgot that turn-overs were a big part of high school football.

  • You all are giving Jackson the credit it deserves, but your overlooking Vianney and their runningback Markel Smith.. I dont see Jackson wining by 21+ points.. I can however see them win by 7-10. Check out these videos I found on Markel Smith from last year.. 'How bout them Indians!'

  • I don't think Jackson will blow out Vianny this year as they did twice last year. Vianny has everyone back except 4 or 5 seniors. Paul Day the new coach runs a shotgun-spread offense which should help the Griffins Div 1 prospect Markel Smith, who already holds scholarship offers from Missouri, Iowa, and Mississippi. Jackson was the only team to slow him down last year but he still had 2520 yds, 8.8 per carry, 30 TDs his Jr. year. He has 4,728 yds and 55 TDs in his varsity career prior to his senior season. It Should be a heck of a game at Jackson. I'll take Jax by 3.

  • Jackson looked real bad tonight.. the one man wrecking crew of Markel Smith and the #10 ranked Vianney Griffins dominated Jackson. We didn't have our top two tailbacks but we couldn't stop Smith either! Final score 52-27 Vianney

    -- Posted by footballfan29 on Fri, Sep 6, 2013, at 10:46 PM
  • Smith was good but their line dominated the game. Both sides of the ball

  • @Indian town.. I agree our line play was terrible tonight but hats off to Vianney their lines were huge and well coached

    -- Posted by footballfan29 on Fri, Sep 6, 2013, at 10:55 PM
  • Valle is just solid everywhere. Fallert is just a flat out horse. There is some talent in the town of Ste gen with these classes of athletes. Ste gen should be pretty darn good at the end of the season. SG and PH should be very very interesting.

-- Posted by caniplay on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 5:49 AM
  • Congratz to all the winners, Bluff is 2-0 and they look like they are on a pace to be as great as the 2009 football team

-- Posted by Pfccounts on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 7:58 AM
  • in defense of some making an argument earlier. I talked with Valle fans who said Fallert moved in from Steelville across the river. What a player he is. I know last year he was being recruited by North Texas.

-- Posted by ThayerPops on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 8:50 AM
  • Vianny's line is big (6'5" 285 lbs. down to 6' 260) and got good push on the line on both sides of the ball. Vianny rushed most of Jackson's passing plays and was pushing back into the read option plays. Jax without their two running backs playing could not keep Vianny honest as they put heavy pressure on the QB. Jax did not have the short passing game with short outs and passes to the flats to their backs. Bottom line Vianny could get 4th and 2, while Jax came up short on short yardage...or turned the ball over. Vianny blocks and runs the ball well but struggles with the passing game.

  • Any more schools recruiting him or is North Texas still looking at him?

-- Posted by ThayerPops on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 10:15 AM
  • PB has got a couple of wins but lets wait till they play some competition and then we will get a better idea how good they are.

  • Dexter has a brutal schedule.. but they are a bigger school.. doesn't look good for them.

It would be nice if Fallert decided to attend my alma mater: Southeast Missouri St. U.

  • Well said bleed.

  • Fallert played like a man last night. Just imagine what would happen if SG and Valle merged! Both teams are pretty darn good. Valle surprised me with how well they handled the size of the SG line. Fallert was dragging guys 5 yards downfield nearly every play. That game is how a rivalry game is supposed to be. Valle was just the better team last night. If Valle can play like they did last night the rest of the year I'll be celebrating a state championship with the Valle fans in the dome.

  • if you added Valle's enrollment to Ste. Gen's would they be class 3 or 4?

-- Posted by ThayerPops on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 2:02 PM
  • I would assume it would be a small class 4. SG's enrollment is around 650.

-- Posted by Perrywinkle on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 2:33 PM
  • Wouldn't that make for a top 5 team in class 4 pretty easily?

-- Posted by ThayerPops on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 3:42 PM
  • Perry you ever won anything before?

-- Posted by caniplay on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 3:44 PM
  • I won some money at harrahs one time. About 750 bucks.

-- Posted by Perrywinkle on Sat, Sep 7, 2013, at 4:04 PM
  • Very sloppy game for Jackson. Missing two of our better backs, line seems to forget to block at times. Defense forgets to tackle, and to top it all off one kid beat us. Now i know he is one of the better running backs in the State, but at times we stopped him for a loss or for less than three yards. So it seems we have a lot to work on and we are as not as good as every thought we were!

I went to grade school with Tyler Fallerts Father "Valle Grad" all his brothers and sister went to valle K-12 as has he. My Boyz in green well they got takin to the woodshed...it could have been worse.. Valle could have easily scored again before half except Judd thinks passing touchdown count for more...our Defense couldn't stop a leaky fawcet...it's been that way for sometime now... Stolzer needs to get more kids involved ironman football ain't gonna cut it... I cannot be convinced there aren't guys riding the pine that can't contribute... Rant complete...

If youre playing good competition they will get triple digit yards on offence... Nmcc, charleston... Both garbage... But I expect sikeston to keep winning..

  • Funny how everyone picks Stg and Jackson both to win big and once they both lose, no more talking.

  • What do you want them to say

    -- Posted by hb1025 on Sun, Sep 8, 2013, at 10:29 AM
  • Can't be fence jumpers.

-- Posted by Squeak on Sun, Sep 8, 2013, at 10:59 AM
  • Remember, bluff did start off 2-0 last year as well and ended up 5-5, lets see how they handle cape first, then especially Jackson

  • Been out of Internet and phone service range until today! Went up north to my hunting lease to make sure the cabin, stands, and food plots are ready to go for the 15th. No fence jumping from me either. How is Maplewood this year? I haven't heard anything except they lost to country day and Brentwood. 2 really good teams. I assume they are fast so no need to tell me that!

  • Heard the same thing Perry. Who's the first local team on the MRH hit-parade this year?

I believe NMCC's 25 total yards was a school record for lowest yards in a game. Not even in the 80's when they started football do I believe they had a game where they only had 25 yards.

  • Any word on some of the big injuries this week? Too bad kids go down when they work so hard all season...

-- Posted by InYourOpinion on Sun, Sep 8, 2013, at 7:15 PM
  • Austin Stephens for FredMo went to the hospital with a leg issue. Last I heard they think it's ACL, but won't know for sure until Monday...
