Saxony 60 Perryville 43 was the final but it was a really good game up until the last 5 minutes when Corie Williams dropped a couple of big 3 pointers to expand what had been a "back and forth" type of game. Saxony would lead by 6-8 points and Perryville would scrap back! Finally in the 4th quarter Saxony decided to turn up the Defense and caused some big turnovers. Shots begin to drop for Saxony while Perryville heads began to drop! It was a good game!

Sounds like Malden is beginning to get into basketball shape. I knew they wouldn't be ready for the Oran tournament considering the late football run. Bloomfield Christmas Tournament should be fun!

  • Anybody have a score or know who won the Clearwater/Twin Rivers boys game?

  • I know that it's early but is this year's Sikeston team as good as the 30-0 team, what are everyone's thoughts, and I know that it doesn't get any better than 30-0

-- Posted by yaeger on Sat, Dec 19, 2015, at 6:06 AM
  • TR wins by 20 .

-- Posted by kid rock on Sat, Dec 19, 2015, at 9:50 AM
  • This year's sikeston team shoots the trey a bit better than in 2011, mainly cuz almost every player is capable of draining one. Im also thinkn we got a bit more overall team speed. The advantage the '11 team has is the 5 man sub rotation they had. Absolutely wore down opponents by the 3rd qtr. And theres just no replacing a Corey Porter, he was a beast and a fantastic leader.

Caruthersville lost to a very tough Obion County team 71-64. They were down 20+ at one point and fought back to make it a game. George will be back in Jan and he'll make them that much better.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sat, Dec 19, 2015, at 5:51 PM
  • Way too earlier to make comparisons. Ive been a huge Sikeston fan since the mike porter became a freshman and this years team is one of the more interesting ones to me.

Size wise they are a tad bit bigger then recent years id say but my concern about that is there isn't a very big down low presence to me. Kimble could be from his size and leaping ability but im worried about a team like vashon with a few 6 6+ guys start attacking the basket how we will be able to answer. Had some troubles with pbs big guy and nds big guy has had some decent success too, and obviously both of those teams were eventually turbo clocked.

They do shoot the 3 very well, but remember the 2013 team that lived by it and eventually died by it in the state tourney.

I do feel like this team has the tools to make a long run, we'll just have to watch to see the matchuos and how this season progresses but I like their chances

  • South Pem is playing really good basketball. A week ago I didn't have them in my top 4 Christmas tournament seeds. Now I think they're the favorite to win it.

Super unbiased pretty much hit it pretty good. However, the height of other teams is usually negated by the overall team speed of getting up and down the court. Also, I'm going to add that the 2013 very easily could have been state champs despite a poor shooting performance in Mizzou Arena and the semis, had the refs not out there way in that one. JT only logged 16 minutes and they called a bogus handcheck 30 ft from the cup with 8 seconds left. Either way, if this year's team keeps causing turnovers they'll find ways to win even if they aren't shooting because turnovers lead to layups. The only difference would be these 30 point wins would probably be anywhere from 5-10 points.

  • Cape lost by 1 against Farmington on a thriller ending. Cape was up 6 with less than 2 mins to go in the game. Coach Chruch calls a timeout. I could hear him say no 3 point baskets. Well, no possession Farmington hit a 3 pointer and then it was a fight to the finish.

-- Posted by Redsandguy on Sun, Dec 20, 2015, at 9:21 AM
  • Also, for what it's worth Sikeston fans. Vashon picked up another loss last night. They did play the best of the best in Chicago though. Vashon got beat 80-43. That's their 2nd loss; however, both losses were against state ranked schools. Will this be enough to knock them out of the top spot? We shall see. Wasn't a good birthday for Coach Irons yesterday.

-- Posted by Redsandguy on Sun, Dec 20, 2015, at 9:26 AM
  • I heard vashon has a lot of players from imagine prep? I just hope there's not stipulation around their team like there was in the past and imagine preps. Its early in the season and I doubt any other school in sikestons class has any scores like we do. Which in my mind would give us the number one spot. But rankings are just rankings.

And good point rocket i haven't personally seen vashon I just figured they would be able to run with us better then most teams could.

Could someone help me identify a few players on the sikestons team. The taller kid with dreads. Is he our 6 5 guy? What other size do we have?

And I like the landry kid, don maybe? Ok playing jv you only get so many quarters a week to play total which could be the reason we haven't seen him as much on the court but he could be a good guy off the bench for our 1 and 2 guard position.

And is it just me or are we running a little bit more complex offensive sets regularly? A lot of plays off screens and id almost say we are better in a half court set offensively.

    Idk just my two cents

-- Posted by superunbiased on Mon, Dec 21, 2015, at 1:30 AM
  • super....Vashon is mostly Madison Prep (previous Imagine Prep) kids....not exactly sure of how many, but several.

The kid with dreads is Dylon Mills (JT Jones' cousin). He's 6'2" to 6'3". Plays mostly JV but dresses varsity. Developing into a good player. The size we have is Trey Jenkins (6'5" - close to 6'6" freshman) and Damani Jarrett (6'6" sophomore). Both have skills and are really progressing. Both are long and really protect the rim. Trey had 7 blocks against ND and Damani had 3+.

The kid to whom you are referring is Don Larry. He splits time with the JV and varsity. He didn't play in the conference tournament due to the number of tournaments one can play in... He's a super athletic kid with a ton of upside. He's a difference maker off the bench.

The main difference we have in the half court is two guys who can beat their man off the dribble (Fred and Kevin) and cause the defense to break down....which leads to layups and kick outs to wide open shooters...Domo and Marquan...both who can light it up. And, yes, we are running some different sets against different defenses.

The brain trust (Holifield, James, Sarakas, James, Voorhees) are at it again.... We are REALLY playing to our strengths....overall team speed improved (better half court defense and trapping) and this group can flat out shoot it.
