High School Basketball Forum: Poplar Bluff Showdown tournament?

Posted by CrashDavis on Tue, Dec 19, 2017, at 12:16 PM:

Anyone have any info on the teams and/or star players (D-1 signees) that will be in the Poplar Bluff Showdown this year?

I know Jonesboro AR will be playing this year and they have top PG in Arkansas that has signed with the Razorbacks.

  • Was just curious if anyone had any info on specific players that are “D-1” talents or already signed that will be playing in the PB Showdown.

  • Well, I'll just go through and tell what I can find about each team:

Bradley Tech, WI - As a team they are 1-4 on the season, but looking at the roster they appear to be very young so probably going thru some growing pains. They have a kid named Mikell Cooper (6'0, senior) that is averaging 23 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals per game

Cordova, TN - They're listed at 9-3 on the season, so they have quite a bit of experience under their belt. They are led by Tyler Harris: https://247sports.com/Player/Tyler-Harris-85199 who has lots of big name D1 scholarship offers. Harris is the real deal and a big time scorer. At the moment I can't find much else regarding players on their roster

Fayetteville, AR - They're listed at 6-4 this year with wins over MO teams Lafayette and Kickapoo. There's not one guy in particular I'd point to as a big name on this team. They are definitely a football first school and have many of those football players on their team. Not much size variation, but tough and athletic kids. They are in the largest classification in Arkansas.

Christian County, KY - From what I can find they are 2-0 on the season. It looks like they were a very good team last year, but lost a ton off of that squad. It also appears that their best players are football players. Not a lot to go off of for this one.

Humboldt, TN - They are 9-3 this year. They play in the smallest classification in the state of Tennessee. They are coming off a state runner up finish and lose lots of talent off that team. However, they are a consistently talented team in 1A, and have played a tough schedule thus far against several schools much larger than them. They don't have any single star on the team.

  • Any word on Leech from PB?

-- Posted by CrashDavis on Thu, Dec 28, 2017, at 6:00 PM
  • Leech should be cleared at first of year.

    Pb beats Cordova

    Jonesboro beats Christian bro's

Harris from Cordova is one of a kind.

  • How did Bluff beat Cordova?

-- Posted by hoopaholiczanon on Fri, Dec 29, 2017, at 8:40 AM
  • Bluff made shots against Cordova. The championship game was last night with Jonesboro and CBC.

  • Bluff doubled or tripled team Harris pretty much every time he crossed half court with the ball to make sure he couldn't beat them. He still had several and was by far best player on the court. Bluff played better and won. Harris didn't try to force much at all but rather played it smart to let his teammates help him, but they weren't hitting shots and turned the ball over a bunch.

  • I'm not sure that Harris from Cordova hit rim during warm-ups. It was impressive. PB smothered him as smo723 said and he still finished with 31. Crazy good shooter. Jonesboro has a 6'2" guard (Desi Sills) signed by Arkansas and CBC has a 6'10" sophomore (Bradford) ranked 25th by ESPN in the Class of 2020, although he's raw. Good D-1 talent on display.

  • How long has Leech been out? Seems like he missed a lot of time last year due to injury. I would hate to see such a great talent de-railed because of injuries. Kid is special when on the court.

  • Mules upset J'boro 61-59.

  • Heard Leech suffered a compound break to one of his legs during the summer while attempting a dunk. While he may be on his way to a full recovery, a compound fracture is an iffy proposition for anyone. A simple leg fracture can take up to a year to stop swelling with activity. Hope he allows himself time for the leg to heal and his confidence in using it to return. He could have a lot of good playing years ahead of him .

  • Huge win for the Mules against the top ranked team in all of Arkansas!

-- Posted by LeBum on Fri, Dec 29, 2017, at 11:23 PM
  • Nettleton beat Jonesboro less than two weeks ago, so that ranking wouldn’t be accurate. Jonesboro is a good team, but nothing compared to the 32-0 team from last year.
