  • Valle wins 6-4 over east carter. Hard fought game. Good job to both teams. I wish the game would of been played on a neutral field. East carter has been over looked the whole year. They gave Valle one of their toughest games all year. There is not much difference between the two teams. Valle will win state...

  • one has to wonder why a class 2 school doesn't take a kid from a school without baseball and count their enrollment so that they can be class 3 while it's down.

I think what gettinweird is gettin at is this. Take for example a good class 2 team like Chaffee, if they were to coop with Delta, who hasn't fielded a team the last couple of years, Chaffee would then probably be class 3. Class 3 is/was much weaker than class 2 locally this year.

    Am I close g'weird?

-- Posted by Larry Doby on Thu, May 29, 2014, at 7:52 AM
  • Seems like a crap shoot, especially since one can never be very certain as to just "how good" a team in any class will be the next year.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Thu, May 29, 2014, at 9:10 AM
  • exactly my point.. any school.. Holcomb, Campbell, Portageville, Bernie, Senath, Neelyville.

-- Posted by gettinweird on Thu, May 29, 2014, at 1:07 PM
  • My point is, no one "really" knows who will be the teams to beat in any class will be next year. That can change in the blink of an eye, so a team that opted for manipulating their enrollment to move to a different class, might just discover they would have been just as well off in their "original" class.

-- Posted by yaeger on Thu, May 29, 2014, at 5:49 PM
  • Westminster Christian 2, Notre Dame 0. Top 5. ND lost the coin flip and are the visitors. Several WCA starters are huge. Good height and linebacker builds.

  • Congratulations to Notre Dame Baseball -hard played game just came up a bit short... excellent ballplayers with some outstanding players. Awesome pitching by Graham Roupp -will be fun to watch how far some of these players will go. Josh Haggerty with a BA of over .530 and 3 records at Notre Dame High School on the season (hits, runs and triples), Luke Haines another outstanding bat. There are big things in store for these young men. Looking forward to watching the juniors step up as leaders. Have a great summer boys and keep swinging those bats!

    -- Posted by cirithungol17 on Thu, May 29, 2014, at 10:22 PM
  • what do u mean the future? they're good every year. It's not like they're stockpiled with young talent for the first time ever.. They always are.

-- Posted by gettinweird on Fri, May 30, 2014, at 12:26 AM
  • Notre Dame (private) losses to Westminister (private) who now faces St. Mary's (private).

-- Posted by UFO on Fri, May 30, 2014, at 6:21 AM
  • You can't really cry over spilled milk. You compete in the class you're placed in. Bernie has been a district runner up many years when in class 1while fielding very solid teams with Oran usually being a bit better or a lot better. The last two years bernie has been class 2 and there's no doubt that if they were class 1 this year that they would've been top dog in class one. That's why you can't place success or failure entirely in getting to the final four. Especially in the crazy game of baseball.

-- Posted by jwhitlock on Fri, May 30, 2014, at 9:00 AM
  • Surely ur not implying that private school recruit. After years of semoball debate on this topic, it has bern concluded that no recruiting takes place (after scientifically polling 1000 private school athletes and placing the results in a hermetically sealed jar on Funk and Wagnalls front porch). End of debate!!

    -- Posted by cirithungol17 on Fri, May 30, 2014, at 10:06 AM
  • Private schools, all-boys schools, and all-girls schools do have an enrollment multiplier. So if a private school has 1000 enrollment it may be around 1350(apx) after a multiplier which would put them in a higher class than a public school with the same amount of enrollment.

-- Posted by Missouri Sports on Fri, May 30, 2014, at 12:11 PM
  • Yah but the scientific semoball study, verified by Funk and Wagnalls, renders the point moot.

    -- Posted by cirithungol17 on Fri, May 30, 2014, at 12:21 PM
  • The multiplier, etc. does not eliminate the advantage of having players who reside outside school boundaries.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Fri, May 30, 2014, at 4:06 PM
  • *

Lol wow we made it all the way to the end of May before the private school trump card was played. I just hope that the same card can be played in other life instances as well. :)

Semo- actually. it kind of does eliminate that because teams usually play in a higher class.

Before the multiplier- go look at ND's baseball field and look at some of their state championships. Class 2. Can you imagine them being class 2 now with some of the other schools?

-- Posted by TheWarriorz on Sat, May 31, 2014, at 6:24 AM
  • Not hard to win with Cape, Sikeston, Hamburg, Kelso, Jackson, Charleston, Cairo, Perryville, Chaffee, and Oran's best players.

-- Posted by gettinweird on Sat, May 31, 2014, at 7:34 AM
  • To me the multiplier is partially ineffective. Go look at Notre Dame's 2008 team. I'm quite certain they had 4 of Sikeston's best players including ace Colton Young. So Notre Dame has a multiplier but Sikeston has to play with it's leftovers.. They don't get bumped down for losing their best players.. It's an unsolvable issue.

    Wah.

-- Posted by TheWarriorz on Sat, May 31, 2014, at 2:01 PM
  • Oh it's solvable, puttm all in the highest class in each sport, then the state titles will be more realistically spread out.

Gettinweird didn't Sikeston lose to Kennett this year? I could be wrong, but they are a public school, right? UFO didn't Scott City lose to New Madrid? Think they are a public school as well.

And, please correct me if I am wrong, but the kids that live in the Kelso/Hamburg area get to pick between more than just ND and their school. My understanding they can choose between Kelly, Oran, ND, or Scott City. Is this correct?

-- Posted by Kobeyashi on Sat, May 31, 2014, at 5:31 PM
  • I think they do but who's going to Kelly when they're class 3 and Oran's better? Oh yeah.. Nobody.

-- Posted by gettinweird on Sat, May 31, 2014, at 5:54 PM
  • gettingweird, "who's going to go to Kelly when...Oran's better" how can you say this right after complaining about sikeston players choosing ND?

-- Posted by Missouri Sports on Sat, May 31, 2014, at 9:14 PM
  • If you look at the family history and religious practices of most of the families at Notre Dame - it is not surprising that they choose to send their kids there. I can't speak for St. Louis schools since i am not familiar with the region and area.

    -- Posted by baseball.500 on Sat, May 31, 2014, at 9:43 PM
  • I'm not blaming anybody for anything.. But it's not fair to Sikeston to lose their best 4 and then have to play against them in their own district.. Benton n Hamburg kids are open to many schools. Their pecking order is probably Oran, (bc it's easy to win there), ND, Scott City, Kelly.
