  • Interesting to see that Bernie isn't even ranked top 10. Can't wait to see what the season brings.

  • Does their Coach go to the convention and take part in the rankings process? If not then that is probably why.

  • Even if he did go I seriously doubt he would go up there tooting his own horn. Even if so, maybe he has multiple coaching responsibilities throughout the school year besides baseball that does not allow him to attend the clinic. Pre-season rankings are trash anyway. It will all sort itself out in due time.

  • Because rankings, especially pre season rankings are EVERYTHING

  • Why isn’t Portageville #1 it’s very clear they are the surpierior team in class 3.

  • Bernie lost their best player to a torn ACL but will still do well.

  • Anyone from Bernie can hit a home run at their field anyway. Just has to go 210 (?) feet.

  • PDtaddy. Your arrogance is showing again. The field at Bernie is slightly deeper than you mention, and after a tornado destroyed part of it, it was made somewhat larger.

Most public schools are limited by $ and by the land that they own when building athletic facilities. Taxpayers in those districts aren't necessarily keen on passing bond issues to upgrade athletic facilities. They do what they can.

Unlike you and your shining Vatican of southeast Missouri, most public schools do not have benefactors with deep pockets. Public schools aren't likely have a family that can purchase land, build athletic facilities and then get their names put on the completed projects. You and your mackerel-snapping buddies can make fun of other places that may not have the resources that you have. Enjoy yourself, my friend.

  • ND can’t afford irrigation on their fields (but that PVC contraption will do). Or a functional PA system.I don’t think they’re doing as well as you think.

PumpDaddy is upset he didn’t get invited to the high school after party, so he had to put his JV lettter jacket on and ride his scooter back home after the game.

  • I mean I wasn’t aware that stating a baseball field’s approximate dimensions and that it would be easy to hit home runs there (which is true) was such a pressure point?

Of course every schools has deficiencies in facilities or something related. Not what I was talking about but since someone brought it up, ND’s infield used to be terrible. I hated playing third or short some games if it was really dry because we got all kinds of bad hops. They’ve fixed it (and fixed it really well) since.

I literally meant that even if Bernie had an injury, they still wouldn’t have problems putting runs on the board if they played at home- am I wrong? I mean look at the district championship that was played there a few years ago. Can’t remember who played but it was South Pem vs someone and they combined for a crazy amount of runs and home runs.

I realize it’s hard sometimes to read someone’s tone or sarcasm but I really wasn’t trying to strike a chord. This place like many others has become all too sensitive.

SteGen,etc, whom I barely acknowledge on here, said a stupid remark but I didn’t freak out over it or lose any sleep. He’s so ashamed of his school’s facilities he won’t even tell us where he goes! Lol.

  • You just gotta move on from high school, PumpDaddy. You can’t spend your whole life within 4 miles of ND, and not wear out your welcome with the current students. It’s kind of sad the way you try to hang out with 17 year olds, but I guess it’s to be expected since the crescendo of your life was your senior year.

  • The fence is 300 to left and around 335 everywhere else. That being said, what does it have to do with anything?

-- Posted by DCDADDY on Mon, Jan 29, 2018, at 10:58 AM
  • Why would Portageville be #1? I think the Championship game in Class 3 last year only had like 3 seniors combined. Obviously pre-season rankings are not important, but it's hard to argue with S. Callaway and Valley Park being 1 & 2.

  • Wow you played in high school PimpDaddy??? That's a shocker. Well, not really, probably played jv as a senior. Yes, there was a lot of home-runs hit in the district championship game at Bernie last year as I have found out, but at most places, you'd expect many home-runs hit when there is 30mph winds. Also, for how small of a school Bernie is, they probably have one of the nicest fields in SEMO. #donthate

  • I'm a fan of odd dimension parks. Ste gen had that centerfield you couldn't hit a golf ball out of. Fredericktown had that rock wall in left. Hillsboro used to have a tall outfield fence. But man north county could of done away with that lava rock infield ha

    -- Posted by Observer24 on Mon, Jan 29, 2018, at 4:57 PM
  • Chaffee had the tennis courts in left center.

    -- Posted by le888 on Mon, Jan 29, 2018, at 5:09 PM
  • All I said was that Bernie has a small field where homeruns could be hit. Never said anything that wasn’t true. I mentioned it because I was referring to their run support when someone said a player from there may be lost for the season. Bernie has competitive teams most years so I don’t see how what I said was twisted. Not sure why some people got really sensitive over it?

Observer I agree. I even like Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron field) with the Hill in center field. But while we’re talking about fields observer, I’m surprised no one has jumped your tail over your statement on NC’s infield. Maybe Those tax payers can’t afford to have them removed! Right slim?

-- Posted by PimpDaddyTaddy on Mon, Jan 29, 2018, at 5:54 PM
  • True shame they got rid of the hill. Fenway and Minute Maid are on the bucket list to see. I don't claim to be a specialist in soil of any kind so it could very well be red clay. If my ignorance gets me hammered in the comments, I'll take the lumps and talk about the seating! Only kidding of course.

By no means do I want to ruffle feathers. Losing Chief Wahoo of the Indians was enough. However, you could pick a flaw in most fields whether they are public or private.

  • Sikeston's field is interesting too; around 390 to center field and an "infield-fly-rule" down the right field line.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Tue, Jan 30, 2018, at 3:20 PM
  • Yeah I played with a guy at Sikeston who could pull any ball 300' and received a baseball scholarship and did nothing in college.

  • AHHH - the never right pre-season rankings based primarily on the previous season, I do enjoy these! these will be irrelevant 2 weeks in.

Observer - don't know what they originally had 10+ years ago but you must not have played at NC in a while, they have one of the nicer fields around in my opinion - grass infield, turface mixture in paths, and clay bricks in batters box/mound. You might be better suited to go play at PHC sports complex!

the only natural field I would compare is the old Wilson Rozier park in Farmington, besides the catchers nightmare of 100 feet to the backstop from plate - it is also a very nice facility.
