Can someone answer why are conferences still used?

Brian, any chance Jackson gets some love in Class 5 from you, Bonacki, or both this week? They've looked the part of an 8-10 team in the rankings so far.
One has to wonder if AD's will try to take advantage of the point system in upcoming seasons when they schedule opponents.

Personally, I think that is already evident in a couple of instances. However, I don't see too many schools getting away from the traditional conferences with the inherent rivalries they have. When you consider cost of travel these days, I think a "closer to home" approach may become even more prevalent in the future.

I think you have a mistake Sikeston's conference standings. We have scored 124 points and only given up 25. You have us down as 117 and 27.
