Brian Rosener is the keeper of the Semoball Cup which is presented to the school with the most successful season. It is based on a formula that takes into account the combined winning percentage of all sports teams plus bonus points for advancement in postseason play for both teams and individuals. The bonus points are divided by the number of teams a school fields. Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. He is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, has a son Jack and a dog named Satchel who stands in for his @semoballBrian photo.

District baseball brackets out

The bracket for the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 tournament is out. You can see it here.

Poplar Bluff will host it as the No. 8 seed and will face Festus in a rematch of last year's playoff game in which the top-seeded Tigers needed a two-out, pinch-hit homer by Austin Pierce in the ninth inning to beat the Mules 4-2.

Jackson and Cape Central will meet in the final game of the first round, 5:30 p.m. May 15.

The Class 2 District 2 bracket is also out.

The host Clearwater Tigers are the top seed followed by Greenville, East Carter and Ellington in the eight-team bracket.

More brackets will be released at later dates here.

Admission is $3 for district playoff games.

Mr. Rosener,

Do you have any thoughts on the format for Class 4 District 1? I find it very interesting a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday format has been selected for this district. Is this the format that has been used in the past? It seems like an interesting format to select for a number of reasons. Most district go with a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday format or a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday format in an effort to rest their pitchers before the state sectionals. Any thoughts?
