Brian Rosener is the keeper of the Semoball Cup which is presented to the school with the most successful season. It is based on a formula that takes into account the combined winning percentage of all sports teams plus bonus points for advancement in postseason play for both teams and individuals. The bonus points are divided by the number of teams a school fields. Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. He is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, has a son Jack and a dog named Satchel who stands in for his @semoballBrian photo.

SEMO semifinals

Things will get interesting tonight at Sikeston during the SEMO Conference Tournament semifinals.

Sikeston (3-0) faces New Madrid Central (1-1) at 7 p.m. before Poplar Bluff (3-1) and Notre Dame (2-1) play at 8:30.

The games are rematches from the final night last year when Sikeston won the title over NMCC, 64-44, and Poplar Bluff beat Notre Dame for third.

The seeds held true in the first round, but will they tonight?

The final is set for 8:30 p.m. Friday night with third place at 7 p.m. and the consolation final at 5:30 at the Sikeston Fieldhouse.

Good matcups tonite, should see who's stronger among the bigger area schools. Two of the smaller area schools I've seen this year that are tough: Scott Central and Bernie. They both look very good, though depth could be a problem if foul trouble or injury occurs.

I like Sikeston over New Madrid tonight. I really think New Madrid should have been seeded higher.

I'm unsure about the other game. I haven't seen Notre Dame play. At the beginning of the week, I was planning on predicting Notre Dame would upset Poplar Bluff. However, after hearing how Notre Dame struggled against Charleston I am leaning in the other direction. I kinda like Poplar Bluff. But it is too close to call.
