Tyler Hansbrough Day setPosted Friday, July 17, 2009, at 7:38 AM
Tyler Hansbrough will wave the green flag at next weekend's NASCAR race in Indianapolis, serving as the grand marshal for the 16th Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.
From earlier: The date is set but the details are being worked out for the City of Poplar Bluff to honor Tyler Hansbrough. He will be in town Thursday, Aug. 13. There will be a couple of events with special presentations and guests. Details are being worked out but the only thing set in stone is the date. How do you think Poplar Bluff should celebrate?
On a related note, Hansbrough's high school coach, John David Pattillo is recovering from heart surgery in St. Louis. I've gotten second-hand information that he had quadruple bypass surgery that lasted five hours but is doing well. Hope to get more information on both of these stories before running something in the paper. Stay tuned. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
Brian Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. Brian is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, and has a step-son named Jack, 9, who is a much better golfer and swimmer than he is.

A well-deserved honor! Let's hope for a speedy recovery for Coach Patillo, and that he'll be able to attend!
Hansbrough in Indiana is a great fit. I'm proud for him and his family. As for what Bluff should do? Organize a summer basketball tournament for charity and invite Tyler to be the referee at the championship game. This would be fun, and it would give us an opportunity to honor Tyler -- "key to the city".
I believe they should name the high school gym floor after him. What a better way to honor someone while they are still living!!!
