Porter out for rest of seasonPosted Monday, January 21, 2013, at 12:59 PM
Michael Porter's injury-plagued college basketball career has hit yet another in a long line of roadblocks.
SEMO coach Dickey Nutt said Monday the junior forward will miss the rest of the season after re-fracturing the foot he originally broke prior to the season. Porter's latest mishap came Saturday night in his first game action of the season. He had six points and three rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench during a 74-62 home win over Tennessee Tech. But Porter, who provided SEMO a boost with his energetic and inspirational play as the Redhawks snapped a four-game losing streak, was taken back to the locker room midway through the second half and did not return to the bench. Nutt feared after the contest that Porter might have re-fractured the foot and that was confirmed Monday. You've got to feel bad for Porter, a really good young man who simply hasn't had any luck during his college basketball career. Hopefully Porter can be in at least reasonably good health for his senior campaign next year and he also has a shot at being granted one additional season of eligibility by the NCAA. Poor Mike he's had nothing but trouble. Get better
Amen on that. Just a few minutes in the game last Sat. night shows how valuable he is to the team.
My gosh.....what a wasted talented athlete. I'm not blaming him but if a kid this talented but not able to show it or play is a waste.
He could still have two full seasons left to play. I'm hopeful he can still be an integral player for SEMO over the next two years. And I bet he'll really appreciate it since he's had all of this adversity. This young man perseveres! Hang in there, Mike!!!
