Nutt optimistic about freshman point guard

Posted Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at 8:58 AM

SEMO men's basketball coach Dickey Nutt is optimistic that freshman point guard C.J. Reese will be able to suit up for the Redhawks this season.

Reese has not yet been approved academically by the NCAA Clearinghouse. Nutt told me he feels good that things will still work out for Reese with the Redhawks this year.

Reese, who played high school basketball in Chattanooga, Tenn., is the most touted among SEMO's three freshmen for this season.

The other two, combo guard Jared White and 6-foot-10 center Colin Ferguson -- both from De Soto (Mo.) High School -- have qualified academically and are on campus.

The same goes for touted junior college transfer guard/forward Anthony Jones.

Jones attended SEMO last year but could not practice with the team and had to pay his own way until he met his one-year residency requirement to become eligible.

From everything I've heard, Jones will be a huge addition for the Redhawks and could turn out to be one of their top players.

The Redhawks also need Reese, their only true point guard after Lucas Nutt. Reese was expected play key minutes backing up Nutt.

We will not be a contender until Lucus Nutt graduates and is off the team. He is not a D1 point guard. He hurts our team and Coach Nutt will play him regardless. And the other Nutt boy could not play at TRCC...much less in the OVC.

I talk to several key players this summer at Coach Nutt's basketball camp. They feel the same way and told me that it cause problems amongs the team.

Anyways, I still support Coach Nutt...just ready for Lucas to graduate.....so we can move forward... He is not quick enough and is a huge liability on defense.. but if he makes one good pass....never fails, Daddy will mention it in the post game and describe it as awesome and Eric S. will say nothing...just go on to another topic....

I will bet that none of those players said that about their teammates. If they did then shame on them.
