SEMO suffers tough loss

Posted Thursday, January 28, 2010, at 11:26 PM

I'm back with another blog, direct from Jacksonville, Ala., where the SEMO men's basketball team suffered a really tough 58-55 loss to Jacksonville State.

SEMO played a strong game overall and probably should have won, but some late turnovers helped fuel JSU's rally.

SEMO's women picked up a nice road win.

I've got to finish up my men's story for the paper, but have at it with discussions about tonight's game or whatever moves you.

DE right, but OL, no way, unless you are going to run a spread. It will be interesting to see how they plan on using him. Some spread teams will take a smaller OL. DE is about right for his size. I agree there.

Not a bad size at all for a DE semoredhawk. Most high school lineman can put on 25 lbs pretty easily if he has the frame and they want him to play DT or OL. But if he is a DE, 265 is plenty big right now.

Very small for a OL or DL.

I found a football commit:

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/catego...

Oak Hills senior OL-DL Ben Schmidt (6-5, 265) has committed to Southeast Missouri State, according to Oak Hills coach Kurry Commins...Schmidt was first-team all-GMC and a three-year starter for the Highlanders.

So if we sign these two, next year we will have two 6'9s and two 6'8s on the roster.

Im not counting Waylon Jones. These are two others.

Amazing. I sure hope we can land these post players. Nutt's style of offense really needs a good post play. A good post player will create more opportunity for our perimeter players to get higher % shots.

Any word on a point guard / shooting guard? A good guard with thats an outside threat is the other missing piece of the puzzle.

I heard that Nutt is trying everything in the book to find a way for Bobby Hatchet to be a Redhawk. If so - SE will be in the top three of the OVC next year.

Waylon Jones is 6'9" and he signed during early signing period. Are you counting him?

All Ive heard is that a 6'8 and a 6'9 have committed.

Hey what a big mistake the STL Post-Dispatch made in today's paper. Those of you from the STL area that saw the sports page and read the College BBall "Round Up" know what I'm talking about.

In the SEMO-Tech preview, they listed Derek Winans as our leading scorer at 14.5 points per game.

I realize that the general reader wouldn't know the difference, but certainly the SEMO BBall fans that saw the mistake would recognize it.

Asuato please tell us more. We won't hold it against you if you end up incorrect. And nothing is final until the Letter of Intent is signed anyway.
