Josh Mlot
Josh Mlot is the sports editor of semoball.com and the Southeast Missourian. He is a graduate of Miami (Ohio) University and has spent the last eight years covering high school and college sports in Pennsylvania and Mississippi. Missouri is the seventh different state he has called home. If you ask him where he's from, the answer is, "all over the place."
Josh has covered legends like Joe Paterno, Hall of Famers like Brett Favre, future-pros like Matt Adams (when he was just an amateur with local tall tales about his ability to hit the stitches off a baseball) and multiple All-Americans. He has covered undefeated teams and winless teams; budding prospects and total busts.
Now, the land of semoball.

LIVE BLOG: Girls soccer state Day 1
Posted Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 11:39 AMHALF: St. Vincent 0, Principia 0 A defensive first half, to say the least. Principia had a little bit of the run of play early on, but didn't use it to get great looks. As the Indians settled in they began to control possession. Still, St. Vincent managed just three shots in the first half. Principia is still waiting for its first official shot... -

State championships clear away the jaded haze
Posted Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 12:01 AM3It's easy to get jaded and roll your eyes every time someone says that amateur athletics, at any level, is as much about the athletes as the athletics. That it's more about producing good human beings than winning performances. Too often coaches are hired or fired or forced out because they didn't win enough games. ... -
Saxony Lutheran girls riding desire as story nears completion
Posted Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 12:00 AM2One week ago I sat in the press box at the Bearcat Athletic Center at Dexter High School for a Class 3 girls sectional and listened to the Twin Rivers radio team chatter away next to me; late in the third quarter I listened to them tell their listeners about the "ineffectiveness" of Saxony Lutheran's Raegan Wieser... -
The best performance -- taking in Cape Central's defeat of Sikeston
Posted Sunday, February 14, 2016, at 9:14 PM4You can read my game story from that night: here. Let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill. I'm not going to pretend that Cape Central's win over previously undefeated Sikeston on Friday night was anything other than what it was -- a major confidence boost (if the Tigers even needed one), a great resume builder, major bragging rights and strong positioning to win at least a share of the SEMO Conference title. ... -
First impression: High school basketball and the Christmas Tournament
Posted Monday, January 4, 2016, at 4:32 PM3Sometimes the holidays can be a hectic time, generally because we get caught up in family obligations, gift-giving and the like. But this year mine was crazy because of my first Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament. I got a chance to take in a lot of basketball, which meant a lot of time at the Show Me Center as I covered all 28 games of the tournament. I shared some of my impressions in a recent column: A flood of high school basketball... -
Southeast Missouri State women's basketball making strides faster than expected
Posted Sunday, December 13, 2015, at 9:17 PM2Let's hit the pause button. Everything surrounding Southeast Missouri State basketball generates emotion right now. Gobs of it. But I want to save discussion of the men for another day (they're stealing plenty of the limelight, for good or bad, at the moment). Right now I want to talk about the women... -
My first look at Southeast Missouri State men's basketball
Posted Monday, November 30, 2015, at 10:06 AMIt's natural that for a while I'm going to encounter a lot of firsts on the job. Of the 'firsts' that I can already check off my bucket list after two and a half weeks, some (among many) include first blog, first feature story, first game story, first error in print and first Semoball.com commentary banter. Thanks for helping me get that out of the way... -
Laying down roots
Posted Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 8:37 PM27I like to know what I'm getting in to, so I made sure to do some quick research when I sat down to write my first words for semoball.com and the Southeast Missourian. I looked up what Rachel Crader wrote when she sat down to do the same thing, way back in 2009...
