SEMO women's basketball picks up commitment from Missouri transfer, South Pemiscot grad Carrie Shephard

Former South Pemiscot standout Carrie Shephard is transferring from the University of Missouri and announced her decision to join the Southeast Missouri State women's basketball program on Twitter Wednesday morning.

Shephard, a 5-foot-4 guard, spent the last two seasons with the Tigers. She played in 15 games as a sophomore, averaging 4.9 minutes, as Mizzou went 22-10 and picked up a first-round win in the NCAA tournament. She scored 11 points, dished out seven assists and recorded five rebounds.

She played in 13 games and averaged 6.2 minutes during her freshman season. She scored 15 points, recorded 11 assists and grabbed six rebounds.

Shephard was named the Semoball Awards Female Athlete of the Year and Girls Basketball Player of the Year following her senior season in 2014. She was also Miss Show Me Basketball.

Southeast coach Rekha Patterson, who led the Redhawks to a 15-15 record and their first Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearance since 2009 in her first season at the helm, cannot speak about recruits until they've signed a National Letter of Intent due to NCAA rules, but tweeted her excitement about a "local" commitment.
