SEMO pitcher Alex Winkelman drafted by Houston Astros

Southeast Missouri State junior Alex Winkelman was selected by the Houston Astros in the 21st round of the 2015 MLB Draft on Wednesday.

Winkelman, a left-handed pitcher from Crystal City, Missouri, was drafted with the 619th overall pick in the draft.

He is the fourth Ohio Valley Conference player selected so far in this year's draft and the first OVC pitcher.

Winkelman was 4-3 in his third season at Southeast with a 4.22 ERA and held opponents to a .248 average. His 92 strikeouts were second in the conference only to teammate Joey Lucchesi, who had 93.
