Southeast basketball teams each add fifth player to signing classes
The Southeast Missouri State athletics department announced a couple of signings for the men's and women's basketball programs.
Forward Katia Polk's signing to play for Rekha Patterson was announced Thursday and guard Eric McGill's signing to play for Rick Ray was announced Friday.
Both players are the fifth in each coach's first signing class at Southeast.
Polk is a 5-foot-10 forward from Memphis, Tennessee who averaged 8.6 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks per game at Whitehaven High School, where she spent her final two seasons of high school. She attended White Station prior to that.
"Katia brings toughness and physical play to our program," Patterson said in a press release. "She is relentless in her efforts to rebound, defend and create space, and I am excited that she is joining Redhawk nation."
Ray's fifth signee also hails from Memphis, Tennessee. McGill, a 6-2, 170-pound combo guard attended Bartlett High School, where he averaged 20 points, six assists and 2.5 steals during his senior campaign. He also was a 41 percent three-point shooter last season and averaged three made 3s a game.
"Eric fills a need for us because of his ability to play both the point guard and shooting guard positions," Ray said in a release. "His versatility and skill set allow him to be a player that will be able to knock down shots and create offense off his dribble penetration for himself and his teammates. Eric is a fine addition to our already strong 2015-16 recruiting class."
Ray previously signed four players: junior college transfers Joel Angus and Clyde Santee and high school seniors Jaylin Stewart and Tony Anderson.

Patterson had already signed signed four high school seniors: Adrianna Murphy, Corneisha Henderson, Delapo Balogun and Hilma Mededovic.
Her coaching staff has not officially been announced but includes former Ball State graduate assistant Juwan Scaife and former Baylor graduate assistant Chante' Crutchfield.
Ray's coaching staff was concluded Monday with the announcement of the hiring of former Morehead State and Wright State assistant Chris Moore.
Ray also tapped into his Mississippi State connections to hire assistant Adam Gordon and director of operations Nick Lagroone. He retained assistant Jamie Rosser, who had served as associate head coach on Dickey Nutt's previous staff.
