Central junior Al Young receives offer from Southeast Missouri State

Central junior Al Young has received a scholarship offer to play football at Southeast Missouri State for coach Tom Matukewicz, Central coach Nathan Norman confirmed Monday.

The 6-foot, 170 pound defensive back and wide receiver took an unofficial visit to Southeast on Saturday and was in attendance for the Redhawks' upset win of then-No. 20 Tennessee State.

Young said Wednesday that the offer he received Saturday was his first offer, but he's gotten interest from other schools.

He said that Wyoming, Purdue, Missouri, Nebraska and Oregon have shown interest in him as a receiver.

"I think they've got a great program," Young said of Southeast. "They're on the winning side right now, and I like that."

He plans to wait and see what other offers he gets.

Young leads the Tigers, who claimed the SEMO North Conference title on Friday, with 15 receptions for 270 yards and seven touchdowns. He has 466 yards rushing, averaging about 8 yards per carry, and seven touchdowns. He has 17 total touchdowns this season and has a team-high three interceptions.

Matukewicz cannot comment on recruits per NCAA rules.

I would love to see him as a Redhawk, but you have to think Mizzou has taken notice of him.

Missouri tends to go with the 6'4"ish wideouts. If Young is recruited to play defensive back, that is a different story. Great player and athlete. With the success Coach Matukewicz is having, he may have a shot.

Great athlete, excellent player. But grades and test score are the most important for him and many others. No academics, no play unless JUCO. Good luck to him and hit the books!

I highly doubt Nebraska, Oregon or even Missouri for that matter has shown interest in Young. Not to take anything away from he's a very very good wide receiver. But come on those are some Top name Division 1 schools he mentioned

I've been told he will be ineligible next year because of his age how will that effect recruitment?

Not sure where you get your information woodsy but he'll be eligible next year unless grades keep him away.

I read up on Al Young the kid is GOOD reading all these comments some are crazy i follow the kid on twitter and Instagram the kid got a lot of college letters from big D-1 schools but he have to make the grades and do good on the ACT...but some of these comments i see why semo area can't keep it's area talent you people talk about and down the kid now if the kid see this how you think he go feel talking about how he is too old but anyways I wish the kid best of luck he will be the future of southeast area watch and see..
