Southeast's Gibson to sign with St. Louis Cardinals as free agent

Southeast Missouri State outfielder Derek Gibson is expected to sign as a free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals and report to the Florida Gulf Coast League on Wednesday, according to Southeast sports information assistant Sean Stevenson. Gibson was a first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection twice in his career at Southeast. He hit .403 his senior season with 70 RBIs and was named a first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
