SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Kennett varsity girls team tennis team suffered a 5-0 loss to Barstow in its Class 1 state semifinal contest Thursday morning.

"I knew the competition was going to be stiff," Kennett coach Janet Hilburn said following the state semifinal match. "I told the girls 'go out there and compete.' They competed and I cannot complain. Barstow is a really good team and I knew they would be, but our girls competed to the best of their ability."

Kennett will play Logan-Rogersville in the Class 1 third-place game Thursday at 1 p.m. Logan-Rogersville was defeated 5-0 by defending Class 1 state champion Visitation Academy in its state semifinal match Thursday morning.

"Our game plan is to do the same thing Thursday afternoon," Hilburn said. "I feel we will settle in after this morning's match and play better Thursday afternoon."

Visitation Academy will play Barstow for the Class 1 state title Thursday at 1 p.m.
