Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament weather updates

Posted Monday, December 24, 2012, at 6:34 PM

I'm pretty sure the whole world has heard that we might (read: likely will) be getting some (read: lots and lots) of snow on Christmas night.

Of course that could mean a change in the schedule for the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament, which is slated to begin at 9 a.m. on the 26th.

For the record, I do not claim any ability to predict weather, but I just wanted to write a quick note to say I'll be in touch with tournament director Mitch Wood if we do, in fact, get copious amounts of snow.

I'll post an update here on my blog as soon as I hear from him about any changes. You can also follow me on Twitter @semoball for updates.

In the meantime, make sure you get signed up for the bracket contest here. The winner gets a $300 gift certificate to Auto Tire & Parts.

You can also rewatch Day 4 of last year's tournament here. We'll be webcasting Day 4 of the tournament again this year thanks to Southeast SportsCare.

Jordan Seabaugh and I will provide live updates via our Cover It Live chat throughout the tournament as we've done for years now. Head on over the the tournament page here to join us. That's also where you'll find tournament brackets, photos, the scoreboard and links to everything else I've written about.

In the event we pick Leopold to win the Leopold-Oak Ridge game, but Leopold has to forfeit a game because they cannot get to the tournament for several days because of the snow will we lose points in the bracket contest for picking Leopold? I think this is a very legitimate question.

For the record I'm not eligible for the $300. But I compete in the contest anyways.

Anyone living in Bollinger County care to offer an estimate regarding how long it would be before Meadow Heights, Leopold or Woodland could safely travel to Cape Girardeau if a foot of snow falls in Bollinger County Tuesday night? How quickly do road crews normally clear roads in that terrain?

If we get the snow they are predicting, it would be wise for those schools to put their teams up in Dorms on Semo Campus on Christmas night. It will be several days before the roads in Bollinger County receive enough sunlight to melt away

This is funny Dustin. IMO there are enough fathers and ect... that have 4X4's to take those boys down to play ball. I don't think it would be an issue.....if the games are still on those boys will find a way there I have no doubt.

That's an American comment right there! Amen!

Surely they wouldn't make a team forfeit because of the weather. I imagine they would just reschedule for another day or push the games back latter in the day.

Do they have 4x4's in Bollinger County? Heck, do they have running water and electricity? What about people who know about weather? Do they know snow is coming potentially? Geeze Dustin, you grew up and live in Southeast Missouri and still make it sound like undeveloped swampland and hillbillies are the only things here.

Sideline starter

In 1967 Woodland forfeited a game in the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament. The records do not say why. In 1991 Doniphan forfeited a game in the Bloomfield Tournament. The records do not say why.

I do not have records for the Southeast Missourian Tournament

My points are very valid. You words are your own sideline starter.

I'm not suggesting that should happen this year. Just discussing all the possibilities.
