Class 3: Notre Dame-Logan-Rogersville

Posted Friday, November 6, 2009, at 9:59 PM

Notre Dame is the last winless team left in the Class 3 final four, but it has one last chance to change that tonight. The Bulldogs are about to take on Logan-Rogersville in their final pool-play match.

Logan-Rogersville is 1-3 so far tonight and still have a chance to make the title game if things fall exactly right. We know that Notre Dame will be playing for third place at 8:30 tomorrow.

The teams are taking the court.

Game one:

1-0 Logan. A tip for a kill gets things started.

2-2 tie. Setter Shannon Brennan serving for ND.

3-2 Logan. The quick set came a little too slow for Meghan Dohogne in the middle and the ball ended up hitting the floor on the ND side of the net.

5-3 Logan. Allyson Bradshaw with the kill for ND on the outside.

7-4 Logan. The Wildcats get a lucky ace on a serve that caught a lot of the net on the way over.

8-5 Logan. Chloe Blount is causing some trouble of ND in the middle. She just got her second monster kill of the game but was promptly subbed out after a rotation.

11-7 Logan. A Lindsay Strieker block leads to a ND point.

12-8 Logan. Tip goes down for ND.

13-9 Logan. Missed serve gives Notre Dame the ball back.

13-10 Logan. Dohogne gets a solo stuff in the middle.

13-11 Logan. Bradshaw kills an overpass.

13-12 Logan. The Bulldogs are back in this game.

The score on the scoreboard here has been wrong for a while, which is causing some confusion. Logan-Rogersville has had an extra point for a while now.

They've paused play to figure it out. It should be 15-13 Logan-Rogersville at this point. Meanwhile, the student sections are going at it in pretty entertaining fashion.

Logan-Rogersville to smaller ND section: "Where's your pep club?"

ND: "Where's your rings?"

Logan: "Let's play football."

We're finally back underway.

15-15 tie. Two points in a row bring the Bulldogs even.

16-15 Notre Dame. Dohogne ace gives Bulldogs the lead.

17-15 Notre Dame. After a hitting error by Logan-Rogersville, the Wildcats take their first timeout.

18-16 Notre Dame. I think it was Strieker and Bradshaw who combined on a stuff.

19-16 Notre Dame. Amy Wibbenmeyer with the kill.

20-18 Notre Dame. Ace for Logan-Rogersville.

20-19 Notre Dame. Timeout for Notre Dame.

21-19 Notre Dame. Strieker got a block then followed it up with a kill on an overpass.

21-21 tie.

22-21 Notre Dame. Strieker to serve.

22-22 tie. Logan-Rogersville gets a good swing and a kill out of serve receive, if that makes sense.

23-22 Logan. Dohogne stuffed outside.

23-23 tie. Dohogne with the kill this time and from the back side.

24-23 Logan. Wildcats tip around double block.

24-24 tie.

24-25 Logan. Blout out of the middle with the kill.

25-25 tie. Missed serve by Logan-Rogersville.

26-25 Logan. Missed serve by ND

26-26 tie. Strieker with a kill.

27-26 Notre Dame.

27-27 tie. Blout again in the middle, but she has rotated out of the game again.

28-27 Logan. Wildcats tip again.

29-27 Logan. The Wildcats get Bradshaw with a block to seal the win. Both teams played well, particularly at the end, which made it a fun game to watch. We'll see how Notre Dame is able to respond.

Game two:

The student sections are still going at it in the most fun of ways in the stands. Very entertaining.

2-2 tie. Logan-Rogersville misses a serve to even things up after Dohogne got in the net to give the Wildcats a sideout.

4-3 Logan. Blount again with the kill.

4-4 tie. And Logan again with a missed serve.

6-5 Notre Dame. Kate Edwards with a kill on the outside.

7-7 tie. The Notre Dame cheering section has now taken the initiative to move directly behind the Logan-Rogersville section to deliver the message, "Now you hear us."

Logan: "Still can't hear you..."

8-8 tie. Soft set from the back row into the middle of the court works for ND.

ND student section goes back to where it came from.

Logan-Rogersville: "Na, Na, Na, Na. Na, Na, Na, Na, Na. Hey, hey, hey. Good bye."

11-9 Notre Dame. Alyssa Ruopp to serve.

13-9 Notre Dame. In a reversal of roles, Dohogne sets Brennan, who gets a kill.

Timeout Logan-Rogersville.

13-10 Notre Dame. Kill goes down untouched for Logan-Rogersville.

14-12 Notre Dame. Dohogne finds a hole for a soft shot and gets the kill.

15-13 Notre Dame. Bradshaw with a kill.

16-15 Notre Dame.

17-16 Notre Dame. Bulldogs caught in the net.

19-17 Notre Dame. Hitting error for Logan-Rogersville.

19-18 Notre Dame. Kill from Logan on the outside.

19-19 Notre Dame. Dohogne stuffed on the outside.

20-19 Logan. Timeout Notre Dame.

20-20 tie. Dohogne with a kill on the outside. Ruopp to serve.

21-20 Notre Dame.

21-21 tie. Dig goes out of bounds for ND.

22-21 Notre Dame. Amy Wibbenmeyer with a kill.

23-21 Notre Dame. Hitting error by Logan-Rogersville

Timeout Logan-Rogersville.

23-22 Notre Dame. Blount with a kill. Why they don't get the ball to her more, I do not know.

24-23 Notre Dame.

24-24 tie.

25-24 Notre Dame. Bradshaw attack unreturned.

26-24 Notre Dame. Strieker with a kill to end it.

I'm not sure how the tiebreaker would have worked out, but Notre Dame may have just kept Logan-Rogersville out of the championship game.

We'll see a rematch of this wonderful match for third match. Should be a good match.

I'm off to talk to ND players and coaches.

You're right. Please do forgive. I'm looking forward to more from these volleyball teams and student sections tomorrow. It is an intriguing third-place game.

Great day Crader. Look forward to listening to your comments about the Notre Dame game tommorow night as we drive back home. See you at the Lesterville and Scott City games tommorow afternoon.

Love the comment from Logan, "Let's play football." Still not sure why ND has football.

BTW, has anyone caught the score to the Saxony soccer game. It didn't make it in the paper, as expected.

Matt,

Saxony lost last night in the district final to John F. Kennedy. I'm sure it will be in Sunday's paper since there is no print today. They just played their title game a day later.

Sorry I didn't get it up on semoball last night.
