Looks good IMO given the circumstances to seed this tournament. Saxony might be seeded a little high and I might bump Dexter and maybe East Prairie up a few spots. I cannot complain however.

Holcomb 6, TR 7, Dexter 8 in my opinion. Holcomb and TR both played Bernie, Holcomb was tied in the 3rd quarter and was in it until they ran out of gas in the 4th. Bernie ran TR out of the gym, and all you can base Dexter off of is a 50 point loss.

I agree with Uncle Charlie that Dexter and EP were seeded too low. I also think Puxico should've been seeded above Doniphan. But with so few games for some of these teams it really is hard to seed them accurately. But those teams will get their chance to show their stuff. I expect some upsets in the first round this year.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 7:56 PM

We've seen a pretty quiet first round the past few years, because of the uncertainty in some seedings. This year, I expect to throw my bracket away after the first day, instead of day 2 or 3. Really like the Twin Rivers/East Prairie and Holcomb/Malden match-ups. Those have potential to be upsets.

-- Posted by @realjoenorthern on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 8:56 PM

I think the coaches did a great job seeding this tournament. The seeds look accurate.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 9:01 PM

I think they are ok, hard to judge right now. We need more games.

-- Posted by BBfanatic on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 9:23 PM

Can anybody post the PDF file of the bracket?

Thanks!

-- Posted by TribeFan06 on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 9:43 PM

Don't have one yet Tribe

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 9:57 PM

I have no faith in Dexter. They are not a good team.

-- Posted by Jolly Dump on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 10:48 PM

They will be better than last year Jolly. A lot more talent and they are very young. Dexter starts two sophomores, but they are quite good.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 10:58 PM

Injuries and some bad chemistry is what hurt Dexter last year, but as Preacher noted, better talent is rising to the Varsity squad. Remember calling some JV games in SCAA tourney play, and they were a pretty well-kept team then. Do I think they're top 5? Not yet, still have to prove me wrong over the next few days, but I think they will raise some eyebrows as the season progresses.

-- Posted by @realjoenorthern on Sun, Dec 15, 2013, at 11:23 PM

It seems to me that the first 2 rounds will be crazy. And I think 5 thru 12 is a toss up!

-- Posted by Hightops on Mon, Dec 16, 2013, at 8:10 AM

How can Dexter be ranked that high? 9 would be the highest I would rank them.

-- Posted by Walt Jr. on Mon, Dec 16, 2013, at 12:30 PM

hahaha there is no way Dexter is going to be good this year guys. Twin Rivers beat them like rented mules. Dexter should not be higher than a 8-9 seed and maybe 10. They are bad team, as I said earlier.

-- Posted by Jolly Dump on Mon, Dec 16, 2013, at 9:12 PM

You may be right Jolly.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Dec 16, 2013, at 10:26 PM

Lost by 28 at home to Twin Rivers?

-- Posted by bball79 on Mon, Dec 16, 2013, at 10:42 PM

Yeah, bring Dexter down another seed or two.

-- Posted by @realjoenorthern on Mon, Dec 16, 2013, at 11:28 PM

DUstin maybe Christmas tourney should be moved back to get a better idea of seeds... What do you think maybe in July? The Christmas in July tourney! Man that would be awesome.

-- Posted by Walt Jr. on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 12:04 AM

That's not a very logical statement Walt Jr.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 12:12 AM

I completely agree with Jolly and I think Malden is ranked to high, but I'm going to go ahead and call a Kennett and Bernie championship.

-- Posted by Sydney Crosby on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 12:34 AM

Sydney Crosby

Where do you have Saxony and Hayti finishing?

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 2:25 AM

Dexter may be 2 and out again. Things that make you go Hmmmm. What in the world is going on.

-- Posted by uno49 on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 9:08 AM

DW I just wanted to see how it felt to be a troll.

-- Posted by Walt Jr. on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 10:45 AM

Maybe it's time for a coaching change at Dexter?

-- Posted by BIGELW on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 11:36 AM

Bigelw... How come every time a school any school has a down year the fans always wants to blame the coach of that school. This ain't the pros. A coach don't get to pick or choose players from other school He's stuck with the students at that school. Let face it there are just some years when the talent just ain't there. So you blame it on the coach ????

-- Posted by bobma2000 on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 12:11 PM

They haven't been any good in a while it's not just this year!!!

-- Posted by BIGELW on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 12:50 PM

I was at the Dexter game last night and from what I can see theres no post presence Eric Ray pushed them around all night, and Dowdy cant have just 2 points he needs to be scoring at least 15-20 points a night to even give the Bearcats a chance to be in the game at the end.

-- Posted by REDDIRTDOG1234 on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 12:59 PM

Dexter The 7 seed should not got the 7 seed after seeing there performance last night vs Twin Rivers they played terrible.I think Dexter gets taking out by #10 Portageville in the First Round

-- Posted by SportsAnalyst on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 3:46 PM

At the jamboree a few weeks ago Dexter played Portageville. They only played 3 quarters but the Bearcats was ahead 18 at that point. So the Cats have it in them, they just have to find it.

-- Posted by CatDad on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 4:02 PM

I agree I was there but if they played like last night and how they have been playing they will get beat

-- Posted by SportsAnalyst on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 4:10 PM

Malden/Holcomb, Puxico/Bernie, Twin Rivers/East Prairie games are going to be the best games to watch for the first round. I like the malden/holcomb, and puxico had a bad first start. They will make this a close game. East prairie has a good shot of winning this game. Should be a good one.

-- Posted by CommittedFan on Tue, Dec 17, 2013, at 10:39 PM

I agree with the Dexter comments way too high. I have watched 2 of their games now, they should be around #12. The Saxony /Chaffee game was a good game. Saxony is going to be a tough out for someone. Originally I thought them and Bloomfield would be a very close game, but I just think Bloomfield is too small, and on experienced to win this one.

-- Posted by Hightops on Wed, Dec 18, 2013, at 7:14 AM

#1 Kennett should not be a 1 seed even know though they have had the best team for past couple years and there just not good enough team this year then in the past I think Hayti or Bernie should of got the #1 seed

-- Posted by SportsAnalyst on Wed, Dec 18, 2013, at 3:30 PM

So...other than TR beating dexter and the top 3 winning it all, anyone got predictions. Based on what I've read portageville might be upset by EP. Also, want to see the Bloomfield/Saxony game. I think these teams have played each other in the first round since saxony has joined except last year. Both times Saxony won.

-- Posted by semolian on Wed, Dec 18, 2013, at 8:02 PM

Sorry meant EP might beat TR

-- Posted by semolian on Wed, Dec 18, 2013, at 8:03 PM

I think coaching will be a big factor. The best strategy may win out because the talent at many programs is about equal this season.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Wed, Dec 18, 2013, at 9:21 PM

One has to enjoy the years we are unable to predict the champion. Many years it is much easier than this one.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Wed, Dec 18, 2013, at 9:26 PM

Saxony will beat Bloomfield. Lake will be to much for Bloomfield to handle.

-- Posted by Sydney Crosby on Thu, Dec 19, 2013, at 7:19 PM

Bernie at least by 25 over Puxico and after watching Portageville tonight on yhc i think Dexter has a good shot to win first rd. game. If they stay on Banks with good pressure and turn them over it will to easy baskets.

-- Posted by uno49 on Fri, Dec 20, 2013, at 9:26 PM

Uno

I'm guessing Pville isn't very good this year?

-- Posted by Sydney Crosby on Fri, Dec 20, 2013, at 9:31 PM

Kennett put it on Por. pretty bad tonight around 30. Could have been worse Ken. backed off on the pressure second half.

-- Posted by uno49 on Fri, Dec 20, 2013, at 9:38 PM

Caruthersville, NMCC, and Clearwater are not playing in a Christmas tourney this year. I think all three teams would be excellent additions to the Bloomfield tourney. That raises the question of who should go? I think a fair way to judge that would be to ask who hasn't made any noise at all the last few years? Under that criteria, you might consider Richland, Van Buren, and Puxico.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 6:12 PM

I don't really like the idea of removing Puxico from the tournament. Caruthersville won't bring any fans. I'd be OK with adding Clearwater and removing Van Buren. If you let NMCC in the tournament they will win it almost as much as Kennett does.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 6:40 PM

South Iron would be a great addition, but I'm not sure they would want to not compete at Park Hills. With this being said I don't anticipate there will be any changes to the tournament unless someone knows something I don't.

Now that Dexter is out of the SEMO Conference Tournament they might be able to start their own opening-season eight-team tournament with schools such as Perryville, Caruthersville, Portageville, Malden, East Prairie and a few others.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 6:49 PM

Dustin, I think those three teams would strengthen the overall field considerably and make it an even more competitive tournament.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 6:50 PM

But I agree with you that Dexter hosting their own early season tournament is a great idea Dustin.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 6:53 PM

Yea but I don't like the idea of throwing any SCAA teams out of the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament unless they want out on their own.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 6:55 PM

Bloomfield is different from the Cape X-Mas tournament in that it is an invitational and the Bloomfield school district decides who gets invited. East Carter County used to be in it until Bloomfield decided not to invite them. It could also be to the advantage of the schools I mentioned to not play at Bloomfield because they might get invited to Clarkton or Campbell's holiday tournaments where they would be more competitive. That's what happened with ECC.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 7:00 PM

I think it could be a big event Preacher. But it might be hard to get eight teams the first year unless you were able to get some from out-of-state. Dexter might be able to use a tournament format similiar to what Cooter has used in their tournament until they get eight teams.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 7:01 PM

Well let's see who we can come up with for our proposed tournament. How about Dexter, Poplar Bluff, East Prairie, Doniphan, Farmington, Greenville, Portageville, and Cairo, IL. I don't think any of them play in an early season tournament. I'm not counting the Current River Challenge because its not really a tournament, but more of a shoot-out.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 7:25 PM

Portageville, Kennett and East Prairie have an extra tournament to add to their schedule. Doniphan would be grat. Not so sure about Greenville.

Might be able to steal Malden from Oran.

Not sure about Poplar Bluff. They might be OK as long as they don't decide they want to have it at their place.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 7:31 PM

Notre Dame also could add an extra tournament.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 7:45 PM

Kennett plays at Riverbend and then the SEMO Conference Tourney, so I'm not sure they would want to do it. I didn't include Malden because they already play at Oran. Notre Dame would be an interesting possibility. And if it's Dexter's tournament, PB couldn't steal it from us.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 7:51 PM

Doniphan is in the Mountain View Tournament in January so they have a full slate already Preacher.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 7:57 PM

Ok didn't know that Dustin.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 8:13 PM

As far as I've been told, Clearwater enjoys the Thanksgiving Tournament at Arcadia Valley and are a part of two conference tournaments (OFC, BRL). Don't really expect them to make any changes.

-- Posted by DARsports on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 8:32 PM

I've always enjoyed the Thanksgiving Tournament also.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Dec 21, 2013, at 8:41 PM

Dexter would probably not want any schools their size in it. Isn't that why they dropped out of the Semo conference tournament? They can't compete with schools their own size. I'm from Dexter /Berne area and they are more competitive with the small schools in the SCAA.

-- Posted by Hightops on Sun, Dec 22, 2013, at 12:08 PM

That's true currently Hightops, but not historically. When these sophomores and freshmen become upperclassmen, I think Dexter will be competitive with anyone in Semo again.
